Public Access to Records (FOIL)
New York State’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL – Public Officers Law §87 et. seq.) allows members of the public to access records of governmental agencies. Requests should state that information is being sought under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) and provide a brief description of the public records requested. Please be as specific as possible (e.g. relevant dates, names, descriptions, etc.).
The Records Access Officer will acknowledge receipt of any FOIL requests within five business days. The nature of the request will determine how quickly the information can be provided.
Fee for Duplication of Records
ESM charges the statutorily permitted fee of $.25 per page for photocopies of records requested under FOIL. Additional copy preparation fees may apply as permitted by law. There is no provision in law or regulation requiring a waiver of this fee. Payment must be made to the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District by check or money order. Payment should not be submitted until you are notified that your request is granted and informed of the charge for your request.
Electronic transfers of records are not subject to this fee, but are not always available depending on the request.
